Fred Kafeero

FAO Representative (July 2016 - present)

Mr. Fred Kafeero, is a national of Uganda, holds a B.Sc. in Geography, Botany, Zoology, and a M.Sc. in Environment and Natural Resources from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda.

He started his career in 1986 as Entomologist/Ranch Manager for Ziwa Ranchers limited, Kampala, Uganda.  In 1991, he founded and became Programme Coordinator of the NGO Environmental Alert, Kampala, Uganda, and from 2002 to 2008, as Executive Director.

He joined FAO in 2005, as Coach of the National Forest Programme Facility based in Uganda and backstopping Kenya and Zambia. From May 2008, he moved to FAO headquarters, Forestry Department in Rome, working as a consultant on National Forest Programmes and later as a Forestry Officer in the Forestry Policy and Resources Division (FOA), Rome. He was appointed in July 2016 as FAO Representative in the United Republic of Tanzania to succeed Ms. Diana Tempelman.
