Head of UNCDF and Chief Technical Advisor & Global Manager of LFI (June 2013 – Present)

UNCDF is the UN’s capital investment agency for the world’s 48 least developed countries. UNCDF in partnership with the government of Tanzania is implementing the Local Investment Finance Facility programme (LFI); The Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility (LoCAL); Inclusive finance for rural savings programme (Microlead); & the new Women Economic Empowerment joint programme (IELD).

LFI follows the UNCDF’s local development finance approach designed to unlock the flow of domestic and private sector capital to invest in small and medium-sized infrastructure projects needed to accelerate local economic development and private sector development. The global technical secretariat of LFI is based in Tanzania and has been providing targeted technical support, seed capital and credit enhancements to public and private sector project promoters.  LoCAL is a mechanism that integrate climate change adaption into local government authorities (LGA’s) planning and budgeting systems, to increase awareness of and response to climate change at the local level, and increase the amount of finance available to local governments for climate change adaption.

As the director of both UNCDF global LFI programme and the Tanzania country programmes, Peter has extensive professional and leadership background in international development finance; local economic development, regional and country operations management; investment banking/private sector fund management; and management consulting.

Prior to joining UNCDF, Peter was 1) Regional Director (Africa) for E+Co LLC & Persistent Energy Partners LLC (New York based clean tech fund & private equity firm respectively) actively managing the entire investments life cycle, overseeing direct investments, portfolio development, and regional operations; 2) Managing Director at Choice Capital Management; 3) Senior Director at KPMG LLP in Minneapolis; and 4) Data Analyst at Piper Jaffray Investment Brokerage firm Minneapolis, USA.

He received his bachelors’ degree in Accounting from Metropolitan State University (Minnesota, USA); Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University Of Phoenix School Of Business in USA; and holds other academic and professional certifications & credentials.
